Freaking fun
This would be a good use of a nursing career: (from this source)
What Do Genetic Nurses Do?
- Take detailed family histories and construct pedigrees
- Assess hereditary & nonhereditary risk factors
- Interpret the pedigree & identify genetic conditions or genetic predisposition to disease
- Provide genetic information to individuals/ families
- Provide genetic counseling (APNG)
- Interpret genetic tests & laboratory data (some APNs can order genetic tests)
- Manage and care for patients & families at risk for or affected by genetic diseases or diseases with a genetic component
Now I could totally see doing that. I was at Maggie’s house today and she reminded me (by cracking open the biology book) how excited I get when I read about genetics and things like viruses and microbes. I could potentially see this as a booming career in a few years. The fun has just begun!
